Week 11 - Battery Holder Printing, Testing Parts, Sketching of Head Visuals/Features

Image
Week 11 - Battery Holder Printing, Testing Parts, Sketching of Head Visuals/Features Due to the Chinese New Year holidays I brought most of the required equipment from the Fablab back to my home. Modelling the Battery Holder I used Onshape to create the model for the Battery Holder, I printed 2 different failed prints that were too small to accommodate the battery's size. Below are images from Onshape that I modelled out for the Battery Holder. Testing the Electret Microphone The Electret Microphone has been displaying some issues lately, I suspect its due to the sensitivity set on the device. At the moment I do not possess a single flathead screwdriver and I resorted to using my fingernails to twist the sensitivity meter anti-clockwise with the mic facing my left. The result is that I have sensitive but sometimes unresponsive microphone, I suspect the issue is with the weak positive wire. Below are the graphs for the audio sensor, each spike is the result of my fingers snap...

Week 10 - Feature Testing and Development

Week 10 - Feature Testing Development, Extra Case Study Acquisition of Lithium Battery and Charger I bought some new parts to test as additional features for the prototype. They took a week to arrive and I've been spending the previous week understanding and working with the parts. Cordless Drill Lithium Battery 12V 2.0 AHM Lithium Battery Charger Microphone Testing I spent some time testing the Electret Microphone separately during my free time, the outcome was good as it detected loud audio which is what I want. At the moment I'm trying to connect it to the speaker and mp3 player that it plays an audio whenever a loud sound is heard. I hoped to simulate a shocked or startled reaction. Electret Microphone Found in the Fablab, works fine with no problems. Mini Mp3 Dfplayer Provided by seniors in the Fablab. Speakers Learning the new parts I've spent time to check each individual part online, I found multiple guides online that help me understand each circuit part properly. ...

Week 9 - Visual Development, Prototype troubleshooting, and Case Studies

Week 9 - Visual Development, Prototype troubleshooting, and Case Studies Visual Development Based on the feedback of the concept tests from the following weeks, I have sketched out multiple sketches. I've also managed to create a very simple 3D model of the prototype's design. I aim to create a simple wooden exterior that has a hollow interior to hide and shield the components of the prototype. This design for the visuals is not final as it is only for the prototype design. Prototype Troubleshooting After testing the power supply repeatedly for the prototype, I've come to the conclusion that the L298N Motor Shield was undersupplying power throughout the entire prototype. Therefore after testing 9 separate other Motor Shields of the same model I found that 3/9 of the Motor Shields are not defective so i decided to use those. Hooking up the Motor Shield to the prototype provided the perfect amount of power to supply the components of the prototype. This means that every part ...

Week 8 - Concept Test on Aesthetics and polishing the software with hardware.

Week 8 - Concept Test on Aesthetics and polishing the software with hardware. Concept Test with Aesthetics After the previous week's concept test I realised I gathered insufficient data and decided to do a second concept test into the actual aesthetics of how the target audience would react to organic and non-organic designs. I've only managed to interview 2 at the moment due to the others being busy but I managed to compiled them into a spreadsheet to review the answers. Animals A series of images involving cute animals were shared with the target audience to better understand how they perceive cuteness in organic visuals. I then move on to how a paper cutout design or any other low poly visuals would interest them. Robots Continuing on from last week I asked additional questions of how a robotic visual would affect their sense of positivity.
